Great comments on metabolic syndrome and diabetes. In North America, the metabolic syndrome represents the beginning of diabetes. Diabetes in this country is characterized by fat that accumulates around the waist. However, some ethnicities are at risk even if it is not obvious that fat has accumulated around the waist. People in this category are considered MONW, "molecularly obese/normal weight". That is, their bodies behave as though they are overweight. Treatment is the same, carbohydrate restriction and lots of muscle building exercise. Thanks for the TCM approach. Their is much wisdom there as well.
