Strawberries have always conjured up pictures of bowls filled with succulent red berries topped with thick whipped cream or juicy strawberries dipped in chocolate. Either way they are decadently delicious and mouthwatering to eat. One of their best properties is that they combine well with dairy products hence the numerous delightful strawberry smoothie recipes.

Nutritionally this berry is an excellent source of potassium magnesium with good amounts of phosphorous sodium calcium copper manganese and iron. High in vitamin C and B6 E A and K and thiamine riboflavin niacin and omega-3 fatty acids makes it a very healthy fruit to eat are also present.

It is believed that they have numerous medicinal properties including the ability to lower the risk of cancer of gastrointestinal tracts and are excellent anti-oxidants. Packed with flavonoids that stop bad cholesterol from damaging artery walls and also believed to lower blood pressure. Strawberries are considered to have memory enhancing qualities and to assist in the reduction of rheumatoid arthritis.

Rated so highly as being extremely beneficial to overall health it is not surprising that strawberries are a good idea to add to a smoothie. Their color and flavor bring a special look and taste to any drink.

Strawberries have an additional advantage in that they add subtle flavor without overpowering the taste of other fruits and vegetables. They blend well with most fruits and certain vegetables to form nutritious healthy milk and ice cream based drinks.

A person will find that there are many numerous strawberry smoothie recipes available in magazines and online. However most of the fun about having a smoothie is being daring with combinations and creating one’s own recipes. With a base of either ice cream milk or yogurt honey and nuts a person may want to add melon or celery to the strawberry for a taste zing. A combination of red, blue and black berries added to the basic recipe is always delicious. Sweet smelling and tasting herbs with fresh mints added to the base mixture is refreshingly different.
